Projects
Dina works
with projects in the countries of Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, Indonesia and India.
Dina center in
Goma, Congo
We have built a
Dina center in Goma, East-Congo, where 120 young girls live. Most of the
girls here are victims of rape and the brutality of war. Those who live
here are from two years of age and up. They now have a home, receive
medical care and get a proper education through the Dina center.
In the autumn of
2009 the completion process was started for a new school building.
Betsaida center
in Goma, Congo
The Betsaida
center is for homeless boys and former child soldiers. Around 500 kids
from the neighborhood also go to school at the Betsaida center. When the
boys get older they will be taught a profession.
Dina center
Bukavu, Congo
The Dina
Foundation has built a maternity home for young mothers in Bukavu. All
40 of the women living here have been raped, become pregnant and
subsequently rejected by their families. The youngest are only around
twelve years old. Dina cooperates with the local hospital so the women
and girls can get medical and surgical treatment when needed. The Dina
center is also functioning as a retreat center where they can be
followed up and get help to process all the traumatic experiences they
have been through.
Pygmy project /
Dina school in Masisi, Congo
The Dina
Foundation bought a mountain in Masisi, deep in the forests of
East-Congo, where a pygmy establishment has been made. They have been
vulnerable to persecution, chased from their homes and even killed by
several other groups in the area. Hundreds of pygmy families now have a
safe home on the mountain. Over 300 pygmy children go to the school
driven by the Dina Foundation.
Aril center,
Goma
This is the Dina
Foundation’s center in Goma, East-Congo, which helps the persecuted
pygmies who have fled the forests and moved to the city. The children go
to school here and the adults learn a profession and are followed-up so
they can function well in their new society.
Dina school in
Gitega, Burundi
The Dina
Foundation built a school for 450 elementary school students in the town
of Gitega, Burundi. After decades of ethnic conflicts the government in
Burundi specifically makes an effort to help build enough schools to
give the new generation proper education for the future.
Dina Foundation
HIV/AIDS project in Kigali, Rwanda
The Dina
Foundation supports people with HIV/Aids living in Rwanda, with
life-prolonging medicine and care. This project is especially important
to the children whose parents have Aids. If the parents live until the
children are grown-ups the kids will avoid living on the streets as
homeless orphans.
Dina Peace
Foundation
The
Dina Foundation is active in the peace process in the Congo by mediating
in the conflicts between battle groups.
In 2009, The Dina Foundation had a number of peace conferences in
eastern Congo where rebel leaders, church leaders and government
representatives were invited to meet with each other for the first time.
The
Dina Peace Foundation has its headquarters in the
capital city of Kinshasa and works closely with the country's
authorities. The Foundation also has close contacts with authorities in
other countries in the region in addition to the Norwegian authorities
for peace and stability in the region.
Dina clinic in
Sidaorjo, Indonesia
In the autumn of
2009 The Dina Foundation opened a clinic in Sidaorjo, a city in
East-Java in Indonesia. This clinic is treating the victims of a natural
disaster in the area. In 2006 a toxic mixture of mud and gas gushed up
from the ground, and thousands of people had to flee from their homes.
Three years later the toxic gas is still being released from the ground,
and many people have developed pulmonary diseases after inhaling this
gas. The clinic is giving people necessary treatment.
Future projects
The Dina
Foundation always strives to develop new projects to help the people in
East- Congo and Burundi. New buildings are being built, property is
being bought and help centers established. In mai we will build a new
school building for 500 students in Burundi.
